Antonia:

My name is Antonia, I am 18 years old. I come from Jüterbog in Germany . For me the rainbow-project is a chance to change things with other young people from different countries and cultures. Together we are strong.

The rainbow is a sign for international understanding, from tolerance between cultures which have had differences in the past.

We all have the same aim to build the rainbow. The project will create a new community between young people coming from different countries. This reminds us of the work the “Kreisauer Kreis” did during the World War II.

It is an exciting moment to meet new people, to know them better and to understand them. It is a mixture of cultures.

Yesterday with the group of South-Africans we all travelled together to Kreisau, Poland. There we met the polish youth and got divided into mixed groups from different cultures and languages. In the evening we played a game to get to know each other without using words. Instead we used pictures and paintings. It was very fun and a different way to interact. People got to know each person by a form of presentation from each pair.

Mpho:

I am Mpho Hlongwa from Durban, South Africa. I have been currently staying Hamburg for three weeks learning about the interesting Deutsch culture.

The reason why I think the Rainbow Project is important for me is because of my country’s history with the Apartheid. The idea of sharing three weeks with different youth from different cultures gave me great joy. Not only because I am a person who loves interaction and meeting new people but because we all come from similar historical backgrounds.

This idea of building a rainbow is one way to shape the future that we, as young people want to create. This rainbow we will be building will be symbolising the unity of us the future generation working together as one.

In our arrival in Kreisau yesterday the rain was very welcoming but that did not stop us from having the time of our lives with the new polish youth we met. Meeting new faces and learning new languages was challenging but fun. Yesterday evening we got to know each other without any form of verbal communication. It was done by pictures and painting. A large amount of fun was experienced and interesting facts were learnt about each person. Its has been only one day in Kreisau and I’m loving it!
