Opening

We had a quick breakfast prepared by the kitchen group , we went with the family groups – group 1&2 prepared the rainbow place for the ceremony and group 3&4 stayed in the school and cleaned the rooms and the kitchen .

After that we got ready for the opening ceremony at 2:00 pm the ceremony began, we started it with speeches from several important people – the mayor, the dean and Klaus Gust from SIK-Holz -  and we had a real rock band “sacred hope “ also we danced to their songs , we sang and danced with the children from the kindergarten , then our talented  rainbow singer MOLEBATSI shared some of his songs with the rainbow family also sang along .

Last but not least all of the rainbow participants and the local citizens along with the kids from the kindergarten “Flax und Krümel” of Premnitz played on the rainbow together.
It was also very nice to meet rainbow participants from former projects. Some of them already came with their own children - the “rainbowgrandchildren”. And we enjoyed spending time with the hosts of the raibow-weekend. Also Family Ettemeyer came right away from Hamburg…

So in all this MEETING UNDER THE RAINBOW  the party didn’t stop! We continued it back at the school we had some friends over and all together had the last dinner in Premnitz .

In addition the DJ started the evening where we danced troubles away, we carried on with the karaoke and the party never stops !

Some people went to sleep some kept awake!

So the last rainbowproject ended in a peaceful and almost endless night

And one thing for sure is that everyone got up at the right time next day and were prepared to leave for the next place ;) .

And here you find two speaches of the opening - first the words of the youth and secondly the words of Bishop Kirsten Fehrs (Nordkirche):

1. SPEACH OF THE YOUNG ADULTS - TAKING OVER THE RAINBOW ...

Opening speech for the inauguration of the Rainbow in Premnitz

August 14th 2015

We greet you in the name of the Rainbow Team which built the rainbow in Premnitz in the last two weeks. We are Beverly from South Africa, Tine from Germany, Amir from Israel, Banan from Palestine and me, JP from South Africa.

We come from different backgrounds and realized that we all as human beings have wounds. Wounds that we inherit from the past generations which are not our own, and wounds that are created today by injustice, inequality, discrimination, violence and more. And so we keep suffering from pain, grudge and resentment that we hold within our hearts. Consequently, it prevents us from seeing each other, understanding each other and making steps towards each other. In order to be able to live together in peace, these wounds must be healed.

We, a group of German, South African, Cameroonian, Israeli and Palestinian youngsters came to the Rainbow Project to learn from one another, share our experiences, fears and doubts and try resolving the conflicts we face in our countries, with each other and within ourselves. It’s about crossing the borders that set us apart and finding motivation to create a better future.

In a process that has begun last year in Israel and continued in the past two weeks, we have become a family. We have been lucky to share countless moments of joy and laughter. This bond encouraged us to also share our pain and difficulties. “We realized that our group is not only growing together by sharing happy moments but even more so by standing together in pain and sadness.”

The Rainbow that we built together in these past weeks has been the ground on which we could meet, and now stands as a symbol of hope for the future generations. This experience has been our first steps towards each other, being able to live peacefully and happily in this community. We know that we have a long way to go, and lots of barriers to jump over. But with our will and unity we can make it come true. We can build bridges and destroy walls.

During our time here we realized that in order to be able to sustain this community, we still have to heal our wounds. We enjoy each other’s company, but we are aware that true long-lasting peace requires us to face and embrace each other’s pain and take responsibility. It’s a long and difficult process but we are prepared to take further steps on this path in the places where we live.

This opportunity was given to us by the older generation. And we are thankful for that. We now understand our responsibility to move forward – which means also to be able to put aside the baggage of the past which is not ours to carry anymore. Let this be everyone’s mission to teach and demonstrate love and peace all over the world.

We would like to end our speech with words from Nelson Mandela, the man who first spoke about the rainbownation:
“Sometimes it falls upon a generation to be great. You can be that great generation. Let your greatness blossom.”

And we believe: If man can be taught to hate, surely man can be taught to love and respect others. It’s our responsibility as global citizens to continue the work of peace. We started this with the Rainbow as a symbol for hope and peace.

2. SPEACH OF BISHOP KIRSTEN FEHRS (Nordkirche)

Words read to the inauguration audience by Dr. Matthias Hoffmann
